Applications are now open for the Singapore AI Safety Fellowship, a three-month residential programme designed to train emerging researchers and facilitate international cooperation on AI safety and governance.

The fellowship provides dedicated mentorship, extensive technical resources, and institutional support to help researchers investigate pressing challenges in frontier AI systems and apply their findings to real-world policy.

Programme Support

Selected fellows will receive structured support aimed at advancing their technical research and career trajectories in the global AI ecosystem.

Financial & Resource Backing:  Participants receive a $5,000 SGD monthly stipend, fully covered housing and travel to Singapore, plus up to $30,000 USD in compute resources for their projects.

Expert Mentorship: Fellows will have weekly meetings with established AI safety researchers from leading global institutions (including NUS, Tsinghua University, Anthropic, and Oxford) to guide their projects.

Research & Career Guidance: Dedicated Research Managers will assist fellows in staying on track, removing blockers, and planning the next steps in their careers.

Community & Workspace: Fellows will work from a central hub in Chinatown, Singapore, gaining access to curated talks, workshops, and social events with peers and stakeholders.

Focus Areas

The fellowship is structured around three core pillars for technical AI safety and governance:

  • Cross-Regional Collaboration (Building trusted relationships between the East and West)
  • Technical Depth and Research Excellence
  • Applying Research to Policy and Practical Frameworks
  • Eligibility

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

  • Must be an emerging researcher with a track record of strong technical research.
  • Must demonstrate a genuine interest in steering AI’s development toward positive outcomes for humanity.
  • Must be comfortable operating across diverse cultures and academic disciplines.
  • Must be able to commit full-time and relocate to Singapore for the three-month duration of the programme.
