Applications are now open for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Digital, AI and Innovation Internship, a remote, global opportunity designed to support the United Nations Development Programme in advancing sustainable development through technology.

The initiative empowers emerging professionals to harness digital technologies, data, and artificial intelligence to create inclusive solutions that accelerate the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Hosted by the Digital, AI and Innovation (DAI) Hub, the internship targets motivated individuals looking to solve structural challenges across emerging technology, policy, and global development sectors.

 

What UNDP interns would receive 

Selected interns will receive the opportunity to integrate global expertise with field-based insights while supporting the delivery of agile, future-ready development solutions.

 

Capacity Building & Delivery: Interns will help design digital products, draft policy briefs, and develop practical toolkits and capacity-building materials for governments and partners.

 

Strategic Collaboration: The programme provides opportunities to engage in multilateral UN processes, coordinate with country offices, and build partnerships with tech companies, foundations, and alliances.

 

Knowledge Integration: Participants will collect and analyze data, design thought leadership content, and translate complex findings into actionable insights and data visualizations.

 

Areas UNDP interested candidates can apply 

The programme is open to candidates who can support work in any of the following core streams:

  • Systems Transformation & Innovation
  • Data Policy & Governance
  • Data Analytics & Insights
  • Product Design, Build, and Management (including AI tools)

 

Eligibility 

Applicants should meet one of the following criteria:

 

  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (master’s or equivalent).
  • Be in the final academic year of a first university degree (bachelor’s level).
  • Have graduated with a university degree and can commence the internship within one year of graduation.
  • Demonstrate a strong interest or experience in one of the specific workstream areas. 
  • Possess excellent communication skills, database management skills, and the ability to work independently in a remote environment.

 

Programme timeline 

Application Deadline: Rolling basis until September 30, 2026

Selection Notifications: Between April and the end of 2026

Programme Duration: Flexible and needs-based start dates

Location: 100% Home-based / Remote

 

Stipend and Conditions

 

While this is an internship, the UNDP provides baseline support and specific conditions for participants:

Monthly Stipend: Interns are eligible to receive a monthly stipend (prorated for remote or part-time arrangements).

Health Insurance: Selected interns must provide their own proof of enrollment in a health insurance plan.

Note: Except for the stipend, all other expenses connected with the internship must be borne by the intern or a sponsoring institution.
