Egbichi Akinsanya, an Independent Non-Executive Director of Learn Africa Plc, has retired from the Board of Directors of the Nigerian educational publisher, two weeks after technology entrepreneur Iyinoluwa Aboyeji also exited the board.
Learn Africa announced Akinsanya’s retirement effective September 22, 2026, in a statement dated September 22 and seen by TechMedia Africa.
The company described Akinsanya’s tenure as one marked by contributions to its policies, governance and organisational structure.
“The Board expresses its sincere gratitude for her dedicated service and strategic guidance, particularly her significant role in developing the Company’s policies and ensuring the emplacement of a robust organizational structure, which has provided a strong foundation for the Company’s growth and development.”
The Board also wished Akinsanya continued success in her future pursuits.
Egbichi Akinsanya and Iyinoluwa Aboyeji: A shared beginning
The retirement comes shortly after another change to Learn Africa’s board. On September 9, TechMedia Africa reported that Iyinoluwa Aboyeji, who helped co-found two of Africa’s unicorns, Andela and Flutterwave, had resigned from the Board of Directors of Learn Africa Plc after six years as a Non-Executive Director.
Aboyeji’s resignation took effect on September 7, 2026, according to Learn Africa’s regulatory disclosure, meaning his exit preceded Akinsanya’s retirement by about two weeks.
The two departures are notable because Akinsanya and Aboyeji joined Learn Africa’s board at the same time.
Learn Africa’s 2021 annual report shows that both directors were appointed with effect from August 13, 2020. Akinsanya joined as an Independent Non-Executive Director, while Aboyeji joined as a Non-Executive Director, with the company describing his role at the time as providing technical expertise in support of its digitalisation plans.
Their appointments came as Learn Africa reshaped its board, with Akinsanya replacing retiring Independent Director Alhaji Awwalu Makarfi.
Six years later, both have now left the board within the same month.
