The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results for school candidates, opening a fully digital pathway for candidates to access their scores.
The announcement was made on August 5, 2026, with WAEC directing candidates to its online result platform, waecdirect.org, where results can now be checked using an examination number, serial number, and PIN.
Alongside the release of the results, WAEC said candidates who have misplaced their result-checking details can recover their serial number and PIN through its online portal using their examination number, the NIN submitted during registration, and a one-time password (OTP) sent to their registered contact details.
For millions of candidates, this means result access is becoming less dependent on physical scratch cards and paper credentials, and increasingly tied to digital verification.
A more digital result-checking process
To check the 2026 WASSCE result, candidates need to visit waecdirect.org and enter the required credentials.
The process requires:
- Examination number
- Examination year (2026)
- Examination type
- WAEC serial number
- WAEC PIN
After entering the information, candidates can submit the request and access their results through the portal.
The system is designed to allow candidates to retrieve their results remotely, without visiting a WAEC office or relying on third-party intermediaries.

How WAEC’s new PIN recovery works
One of the most notable changes is the ability to recover a serial number and PIN directly through waec.org.
The recovery process is linked to the candidate’s NIN, which must match the identity information used during WAEC registration.
To generate a new serial number and PIN:
Visit Waec
- Select ‘Serial Number and PIN’
- Choose the examination year and diet
- Enter your examination number and NIN
- Provide your email address and phone number
- Verify the OTP sent to your device
Once verified, the system generates a new serial number and PIN, and candidates can also download their WAEC ID Card to their mobile devices.
This shift reflects a broader trend in Nigeria’s public examination ecosystem, where identity verification is increasingly being integrated into digital education services.
