Trarrk has announced the first edition of the Nigeria Disability Tech Summit (NDTS) 1.0, a new national platform focused on bringing together technology, disability inclusion, innovation, policy, and the wider ecosystem to explore how technology can create a more accessible and inclusive future.
The inaugural summit is being convened by Nnanweobi Ikechukwu Augustine and Boluwatife Oladejo, with the initiative positioned as a meeting point for persons with disabilities, technology innovators, developers, assistive technology practitioners, educators, therapists, advocates, policymakers, researchers, organisations, and other stakeholders working to build solutions that reduce barriers.
The summit carries the theme:
Building the Future of Disability Technology in Nigeria
For many persons with disabilities, technology can mean the difference between exclusion and participation.
From assistive devices and accessible digital platforms to artificial intelligence, inclusive education, communication technologies and employment solutions, technology has the potential to significantly improve how people with disabilities learn, work, communicate and participate in society.
Yet innovation does not always translate into accessibility.
Many solutions are developed without meaningful consideration of disability. At the same time, innovators, disability organisations, policymakers, researchers and technology communities often operate in separate spaces, limiting opportunities for collaboration and shared problem-solving.
NDTS 1.0 is being created to help close that gap.
Rather than treating disability technology as a niche conversation, the summit seeks to place it within the broader conversation about Nigeria’s technology and innovation future.
The platform will provide opportunities for conversations around assistive technology, accessible design, artificial intelligence, inclusive education, digital accessibility, employment, entrepreneurship, policy, research and the development of technology that responds to real-world needs.
The organisers also intend for the summit to create meaningful connections between the people developing solutions and the people who understand the barriers those solutions need to address.

Building an ecosystem, not just an event
The vision behind NDTS goes beyond bringing people together for a single day.
The organisers see the summit as an opportunity to strengthen relationships across Nigeria’s disability and technology ecosystems and encourage more collaboration between innovators, disability organisations, government institutions, businesses, researchers and communities.
A stronger disability technology ecosystem requires more than good ideas.
It requires access to knowledge, partnerships, funding, policy support, technical expertise, lived experience and opportunities to test and scale solutions.
NDTS 1.0 aims to contribute to that ecosystem by creating a space where these different stakeholders can meet, exchange ideas and identify opportunities for collaboration.
An open invitation to the ecosystem
As preparations for the inaugural edition continue, Trarrk is also building the wider community that will support the summit.
Individuals interested in contributing to the planning and delivery of NDTS can express their interest in joining the summit’s volunteer community.
Volunteer opportunities are expected to span areas including operations, partnerships, sponsorship, marketing, social media, content, design, photography, videography, event logistics, accessibility and inclusion, community engagement, technology, research, registration and other areas required to deliver the summit.
People with relevant experience are encouraged to participate, but the organisers are also open to individuals who are passionate about disability inclusion and technology and are willing to contribute their time and skills.

Interested in volunteering?
Those interested in contributing to the Nigeria Disability Tech Summit 1.0 can submit their expression of interest through the volunteer form:
Submitting an expression of interest does not automatically guarantee selection. Volunteer applications will be reviewed according to the needs and structure of the summit.
Looking ahead
The announcement of NDTS 1.0 marks the beginning of what the organisers hope will become a sustained conversation around disability technology in Nigeria.
The summit is ultimately about a simple question:
What would it look like if the future of technology was designed with everyone in mind?
NDTS 1.0 seeks to bring the people, ideas and conversations needed to begin answering that question into the same room.
As preparations continue, more information about the summit, programme, speakers, partnerships, participation and other activities will be announced through the official NDTS channels.
