The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal, with 804,948 candidates, representing 58.67 per cent, obtaining at least five credits including English Language and Mathematics.
The results were announced on Thursday, September 24, 2026, by the NECO Registrar/Chief Executive, Professor Dantani Wushishi, at the Council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.
A total of 1,371,992 candidates sat for the examination, meaning the 804,948 candidates who met the five-credit benchmark with English and Mathematics accounted for 58.67 per cent of those who wrote the examination.
When did the 2026 NECO examination hold?
The 2026 NECO SSCE Internal examination was conducted from June 15 to July 23, 2026.
The examination was held across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, as well as in six foreign countries — Benin Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Niger Republic, Côte d’Ivoire, Togo and Saudi Arabia.
NECO said 1,378,048 candidates registered for the examination, comprising 682,352 males and 695,696 females. Of those registered, 1,371,992 eventually sat for the examination.
The nationwide marking exercise was subsequently conducted from August 17 to September 4, 2026. The examination dates are also contained in NECO’s official 2026 SSCE Internal timetable.

What you should know about the 2026 NECO results
Beyond the 58.67 per cent who obtained five credits including English and Mathematics, NECO said 1,162,118 candidates, representing 84.70 per cent, obtained at least five credits when English Language and Mathematics were not used as compulsory conditions.
The Council also reported a decline in examination malpractice cases.
According to Wushishi, 1,406 candidates were involved in various forms of examination malpractice in 2026, compared with 3,878 candidates recorded in 2025. This represents a 64.74 per cent reduction in the number of candidates involved.
The NECO registrar attributed the decline to improvements in the examination process, stronger monitoring and collaboration with security agencies and other stakeholders.
The examination also included 1,334 candidates with special needs, with NECO saying it continued to make provisions aimed at ensuring their participation in its examinations.

How to check your 2026 NECO result
Candidates can check their results through the official NECO Results Portal.

To check your result:
- Go to the official NECO Results Portal.
- Select 2026 as the examination year.
- Select SSCE Internal as the examination type.
- Enter your 12-digit NECO Token.
- Enter your 10-character Registration Number.
- Click Check My Result to view your grades.
- You can then print your result for your records.
The official portal provides fields for the examination year, examination type, token and registration number, and allows candidates to purchase a token if they do not already have one.
Candidates should have a valid NECO result token before attempting to check their results. The token can be purchased through the official results portal or authorised channels. Each token can be used to check the result of the same registration number up to five times.
