Google, on Tuesday, June 9, announced that it is slashing the price of it’s Google AI Plus plan by more than 37 percent from $7.99 to $4.99 per month, further intensifying the pricing war of AI subscription among its competitors.

The reduction in price also came with a doubled storage capacity, from 200GB to 400GB.

The new update was contained in a post on X shared by Vikas Kansal, product lead for Gemini AI subscriptions.

According to him, storage updates would be rolled out over the next few days, and for already subscribed customers, the new pricing will take effect on their next plan renewal.

Launched in January as one of the most affordable paid AI subscription, Google appears to be leveraging on it’s large customer base, utilizing its massive suite of everyday products—which are now integrated with AI features—as a seamless pipeline to upsell the Google AI Plus plan to billions of existing users.

The features you’ll get from Google AI Plus

2x higher usage limits in Gemini

Google AI Plus subscribers will receive double the standard usage limits in Gemini, allowing them to interact with the AI assistant more frequently before reaching daily or monthly caps. This is particularly useful for heavy users who rely on Gemini for research, writing, coding, and other tasks.

Omni in Gemini

The subscription includes access to Omni in Gemini, Google’s multimodal AI technology that can understand and work across different formats, including text, images, documents, and other forms of content. The feature is designed to enable more natural and versatile interactions with the AI assistant.

AI Inbox in Gmail

Google is rolling out AI Inbox in Gmail to AI Plus subscribers. The feature uses artificial intelligence to help users organize emails, surface important messages, and manage crowded inboxes more efficiently.

More access to Gemini 3.1 Pro and Deep Research

Subscribers gain expanded access to Gemini 3.1 Pro, Google’s more advanced AI model, as well as Deep Research, a feature that can conduct in-depth online research and generate detailed reports on complex topics, helping users save time on information gathering and analysis.

Gemini assistance across Google apps

The plan extends Gemini’s capabilities into Google’s productivity tools. For example, users can leverage AI-powered assistance in Gmail to draft, edit, and proofread emails, helping improve productivity and communication.

Enhanced image, music, and video generation

Google AI Plus offers increased access to Google’s creative AI tools, enabling users to generate images, music, and videos through Gemini and Google Search. The feature is aimed at creators, marketers, and professionals looking to produce content more quickly.

Create detailed reports faster

Subscribers can use Gemini to generate comprehensive multi-page reports in significantly less time. The tool can help synthesize information, organize findings, and present research in a structured format.

More features in NotebookLM

The subscription provides additional access to premium capabilities in NotebookLM, Google’s AI-powered research and note-taking platform. Users can analyze documents, summarize information, and gain deeper insights from their materials.

400GB of cloud storage

Google has doubled the storage included with the plan from 200GB to 400GB. The storage can be used across Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Photos, giving users more room for emails, files, and media.

Family sharing for up to five people

Subscribers can share selected benefits of the plan with up to five family members, allowing multiple users to access premium features without requiring separate subscriptions.

Additional AI benefits across Google products

Google says AI Plus subscribers will continue to receive access to new AI-powered features as they are introduced across the company’s ecosystem of products and services.

TechMedia Africa can also report that Google is currently offering a promotional discount on its Google AI Pro plan in Nigeria. The premium subscription, which normally costs about N28,500 per month and includes more advanced AI capabilities, is being offered at N7,313 for the first three months.

After the promotional period expires, subscribers will be billed the standard rate of N28,500 per month for continued access to the service.
