The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disclosed that Lagos, Kano and Kaduna were among the three top states with the highest number of registered voters ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general election.
INEC Chairman, Joash Amupitan, announced the figures on Tuesday, October 6, in Abuja while speaking on the latest voter register.

According to the commission, the national register now stands at 110 million registered voters.

“The national register of voters now stands at 110 million, making Nigeria the largest democracy in Africa,” Amupitan said.

He also released the ranking of the 10 states with the highest number of registered voters, with Lagos taking the lead with more than 7.4 million voters.

Top 10 states with the most registered voters

Amupitan said Lagos ranks first with 7,488,633 registered voters, followed by Kano with 6,570,276 and Kaduna with 4,662,640.

Katsina follows with 3,876,051 registered voters, while Rivers has 3,736,434. Oyo has 3,588,111, Delta 3,525,988, Benue 3,057,225, Ogun 3,037,981 and Bauchi 3,012,547, he said.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has 1,732,043 registered voters, placing it among the areas with the fewest voters on the register.

Ekiti has the lowest number of registered voters at 1,055,708, followed by Bayelsa with 1,200,691. Yobe has 1,733,641, while Gombe has 1,768,566 registered voters.

More voters are aged 35 to 49

The INEC chairman also provided a breakdown of the voter register by age and gender.

Male voters account for 53,528,218, representing 51.75% of the register, while female voters number 49,900,497.
Voters aged 35 to 49 form the largest age group, with 43,265,946 registered voters, representing 41.83% of the register.

Those aged 18 to 34 account for 29,777,576 voters, representing 28.79%, while voters aged 50 to 69 number 22,982,900, or 22.22%.

People aged 70 and above make up the smallest age group, with 7,402,291 registered voters, representing 7.16%.
INEC also recorded 232,658 persons with disabilities across 10 disability categories, representing about 0.2% of the register.
